On March 22, 2025 the Cadets attended Canadian Armed Forces Familiarization and History Training at the The Military Museums of Calgary, Alberta. It is the largest tri-service museum in Western Canada and the second largest military museum in the country. It is home to eight separate museums including the Naval, Army and Air Force Museums of Alberta, the Air Force Cold War Museum, the four museums of the founding regiments, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians), Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), The King’s Own Calgary Regiment and The Calgary Highlanders. It also includes the UCalgary Founders’ Gallery and Library & Archives.
We were delighted to have had Mr. Dave Petrovich, Angel and Noah provide us with extensive knowledge during our tour of the following galleries; The Army Museum of Alberta Collections, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) Museum, The Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) , The King’s Own Calgary Regiment (Royal Canadian Armoured Corps) and The Calgary Highlanders. https://themilitarymuseums.ca/visit/tmm-galleries/calgary-highlanders
The Cadets were able to experience Exhibit Handling at the Lord Strathcona’s Horse gallery. They learned about Women in Military, more specifically a woman by the name of Mary Greyeyes Reid who was a Cree veteran of the Second World War (born 14 November 1920 on the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation reserve, Marcelin, SK; died 31 March 2011 in Vancouver, BC). She was The first Indigenous woman to join Canada’s armed forces. Mary became a member of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during the Second World War. The military tried to boost Indigenous recruitment and demonstrate Canada’s military might by posing her in a staged photo that has since been widely circulated in Canada.
